In 2006, the Carolina Hurricanes and the Edmonton Oilers clashed for the most coveted prize in hockey history, the Stanley Cup. The outcome of that encounter brought us Caniacs our greatest moment; witnessing Carolina’s adopted son, Rod Brind’Amour, lead this franchise to immortality.
That feels like a lifetime ago. Since that day, both of these franchises have struggled through mediocrity and unreached expectations to be two teams on the rise, albeit, in very different circumstances. The Oilers have hit or miss on many first-round picks, and despite the talent they possess, haven’t been able to bring playoff hockey back to Edmonton.
