On April 23, the Carolina Hurricanes have officially been without a head coach for the third day. Their former head coach, Bill Peters, opted out of the final year of his contract before the start of the weekend. Meanwhile, the Canes started their coaching search over the weekend, while rumors started to build of who they would go after.
At that same time, Peters was looking for the next step in his NHL coaching career. The seemingly two biggest prospects for Peters was the recent job openings with the Dallas Stars and Calgary Flames. Dallas head coach Ken Hitchcock retired after a long NHL head coaching career.
