The Carolina Hurricanes announced today that defenseman Ryan Murphy has been assigned to the Charlotte Checkers for a conditioning stint. Under the terms of the conditioning assignment, Murphy can be assigned to the Checkers roster for up to 14 days, after which he will need to be recalled from the assignment or placed on waivers to remain on the roster in Charlotte.
Murphy has played in four games for the Hurricanes this season, registering one assist, and has been a healthy scratch for the last four games. His role on the third defensive pairing has been supplanted by Matt Tennyson, who was recalled on Nov.
