A tough night for the Carolina Hurricanes really started in the second period in a March 6 road matchup against the Minnesota Wild, at the Xcel Energy Center. Former Canes captain Eric Staal kicked off the scoring with his 35th goal of the season. That was the only goal scored in the first period, as Carolina’s starting goalie Cam Ward didn’t start to go down hill until the following period.
It took less than a minute in the second period for the Wild to score their second goal of the game. The onslaught was on from there. Minnesota would score another three goals over the span of three minutes and 28 seconds.
