The Carolina Hurricanes are locked in with Scott Darling for three seasons, following the end of the 2017-18 campaign after an April 7 matchup with the Tampa Bay Lightning. However, Darling did not live up to the expectations he came with after the Canes landed him in free agency in the summer of 2017.
Before the Canes pursue any other goalie options in free agency this summer, the front office needs to remember a few lessons learned from the past two goaltender signings. Darling could still work out for the Canes, and they need to give him another chance next season considering he’s still locked in until the conclusion of 2020-21, and he’s owed a lot of money during that time.
