Canes sluggish in season opener loss to Lightning

The Hurricanes opened their 2024-25 campaign with a 4-1 loss to the Lightning Friday night at Lenovo Center.

The Canes ultimately came up short in a rocky opening night. Six Carolina penalties led to a pair of power play goals for Tampa. On the flip side, the Hurricanes failed to do much of anything on their four power play chances. Jordan Staal’s line carried the load for the vast majority of the game but it wasn’t enough to overcome those penalties.

The Jordan Staal line got the home squad off to a good start at the tail end of a slow opening period.
