RALEIGH, NC – Ron Francis, Executive Vice President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has recalled forward Derek Ryan from the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League (AHL).
Ryan, 29, made his NHL debut and netted his first NHL goal with the Hurricanes on March 1 at New Jersey, and has appeared in two games for Carolina this season. The Spokane, WA, native leads all Checkers skaters in goals (21) and points (46) this season, in 63 games played. Ryan totaled 15 goals and 45 assists (60 points) in 55 games for Orebro of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) in 2014-15, earning Forward of the Year and Most Valuable Player honors in the SHL.
