Are the Hurricanes on the verge of being sold? Here’s what we know.

Are the Carolina Hurricanes close to being sold?

Speculation about a sale to Dallas businessman Tom Dundon continues to build with the NHL’s board of governors set to meet Thursday.

Hurricanes team president Don Waddell confirmed last week that Dundon was one of those interested in owning the Canes. TSN reporter Bob McKenzie reported Wednesday that Hurricanes owner Peter Karmanos Jr. could be “on the verge” of selling controlling interest in the team to Dundon.

A group headed by sports attorney Chuck Greenberg has been negotiating with Karmanos and the Canes for months but has been unable to assemble an investment group with enough money to buy the team.
