The 2021-22 NHL season officially begins today with the opening of free agency at 12:00 p.m. ET.
The Carolina Hurricanes could potentially enter the new league year with a number of holes to fill. The team needs two goalies, likely at leas two defensemen and two forwards. Unrestricted free agents Dougie Hamilton, Brock McGinn, Cedric Paquette, Jordan Martinook, Jani Hakanpaa, Petr Mrazek, Jonathan Bernier and James Reimer remain unsigned.
Hamilton is one of, if not the biggest names on this year’s market. Don Waddell said Saturday the team had a deadline with the top-pairing defenseman, and would need to get him signed before free agency opens.
