Truth is, Calgary Flames director of amateur scouting Tod Button had this contest — a Western Hockey League date between the Medicine Hat Tigers and the Moose Jaw Warriors — circled on his calendar for different reasons, for a chance to see other up-and-comers.
Fischer, a first-line right-winger for the Tigers, wasn’t even on his radar.
“I noticed this guy all night,” Button said. “He was involved. He scored goals. I think he got into a fight that night.
