The Maple Leafs have not strung together many winning seasons in the new century, but at least they now have players linked through four straight drafts on their roster.
Not that they planned to have centre Frederik Gauthier in the lineup on Saturday against the Buffalo Sabres, but with a new round of absentees the first-rounder from 2013 became the 11th new Leaf this season. Gauthier and the others played a role in the 4-1 win.
Toronto has now won four of its past six.
William Nylander, chosen much higher in the top round than Gauthier, a year later, had a goal and assist.
