World Cup being misrepresented as 'best-on-best' tournament

TORONTO — A klatch of worthies gathered in front of the Air Canada Centre on Wednesday afternoon to unveil a clock.

When Darryl Sittler and Toronto Mayor John Tory pulled the black curtain aside to reveal the official countdown clock for next year's World Cup of Hockey, the screen was, for a few minutes at least, blank.

This made the clock only slightly less unnecessary. Which made it a perfectly appropriate thing to unveil on the day in which World Cup rosters and logos and uniforms were foisted on the hockey public, along with several hours of live television coverage.
