Stage 3 in the Edmonton Oilers Summer of Change is about to begin.
But if fans of the busiest team in the NHL are hoping it’ll be anything like Stages 1 and 2, they might be in for a bit of a letdown.
After a Stage 1 purge at the management, coaching and scouting levels that saw the president of hockey operations, general manager, head coach, head amateur scout, head professional scout, two assistant coaches and three scouts cut loose or reassigned, the Oilers hit Stage 2 with the same vigour.
They returned from the NHL Draft in Florida with a franchise player, a starting goalie and a young defenceman they believe will play a major role on the blue-line for years to come.
