Wideman odd-man out in Flames defence

Upon hearing the Calgary Flames had acquired Michael Stone Monday, few realized the move came with an equally enticing roster move:

Dennis Wideman would be a healthy scratch.

Not always, but it’s now a viable option.

Frustrated by the ratio between how much he costs ($6 million) and how he contributes, fans universally applauded the move announced well ahead of Tuesday’s game in Nashville.

Long overdue but previously undoable due to the thin defensive ranks of the club, general manager Brad Treliving did well over the last week to shore up the club’s biggest shortcoming.
