The threat of another NHL team preparing an offer sheet for restricted free agent defenceman Jacob Trouba is a real possibility.
After all, it’s one of the options available under the NHL’s collective bargaining agreement, so it’s not to be discounted.
A story coming out of Boston from Joe Haggerty of CSNNE on Tuesday night suggested the Boston Bruins were one of the teams exploring this option as a way of trying to pry Trouba out of Winnipeg.
The Bruins — and any other team thinking about this option — realize that because the Jets are so well-positioned when it comes to available salary-cap dollars, it would take a massive offer in order for Winnipeg to consider taking the compensation instead of matching the offer.
