Welcome back to another edition of Throwback Thursday!
Today in 1997, Calgary Flames head coach Pierre Page resigned after two years behind the bench.
Page’s time as head coach of the Flames was actually his third stint behind Calgary’s bench. Between 1980 and 1982, he was an assistant coach and was hired back in the same role between 1985 and 1988.
His time as the head man was as significant as it was short. He oversaw the transition between the Dave King era and the Brian Sutter era. Not only that, but Theo Fleury was at the peak of his career and Joe Nieuwendyk was traded for Jarome Iginla.
