When the Stockton Heat moved to Calgary it was assumed that the Flames AHL affiliate would be undergoing an identity change. And change they did. Today it was announced that the team formerly known as the Stockton Heat would be rebranded as the Calgary Wranglers.
The Wranglers monicker is a nod to the old WHL team from 1977-87 that occupied the city of Calgary. The Wranglers will play their home games at the Scotiabank Saddledome which is a change for them since the last time they were in the city.
