Team Europe shuts out quiet Team USA in World Cup opener

TORONTO - Didn’t Team USA listen to a word that came out of John Tortorella’s mouth in the past two weeks?

On Saturday afternoon at the Air Canada Centre in the first game of the 2016 World Cup of Hockey, there was zero evidence if indeed they did.

All that Tortorella, the head coach, preached was not taken to heart.

Supposedly built to beat Team Canada in this tournament, the Americans couldn’t come close to toppling a collection of Europeans who were thrown together solely for this event.

The final score was 3-0 for Team Europe, much to the dismay of the United States fans in attendance.
