Team Canada takes hit with Blackwood suspension

Mackenzie Blackwood has taken the suspense out of Canada’s goaltending picture for the first couple of games of the world junior.

The Barrie Colts goalie — one of two netminders originally named to Canada’s selection camp roster — on Tuesday was suspended for eight games by the Ontario Hockey League for a stick incident versus Sudbury and will miss Canada’s first two games of the tournament in Finland.

Samuel Montembeault has been added to the roster. He will back up Mason McDonald as Blackwood sits.

Hockey Canada also announced that defenceman Jeremy Lauzon has been added to the camp roster.
