Yes, there’s lingering anger for the Canadians as they start gearing up for the 2017 world junior championship. After all, Canada finished sixth in the event last year in Helsinki, its worst showing at the world junior since 1998, when it was eighth.
Raw emotion, of course, won’t carry Canada far when the tournament gets underway in Toronto and Montreal on Dec. 26.
In fact, the 22 players who emerge from the 32-player selection camp roster — announced on Tuesday — might not collectively be enough to reclaim gold.
There are no guarantees at the world junior, something that has been a fact since Canada reeled off five consecutive golds ending in 2009.
