Stars lead charge as Kelowna hammers Rimouski

QUEBEC CITY - Ken Quinney played 59 games over three NHL seasons with the Quebec Nordiques.

His son Gage looks right at home on the Pepsi Colisee ice.

The 18-year-old Kelowna Rockets forward scored twice, giving him three goals in two games, in a 7-3 drubbing of the Rimouski Oceanic before 6,981 Monday at the Memorial Cup.

He isn’t the only Westerner feeling comfortable.

Star Leon Draisaitl and Nick Merkley are filling the net too.

The Western league champs, notorious slow starters, went to work quickly, burying three goals in the first 15 minutes. Merkley, the top eligible NHL draft prospect still playing, started the party 52 seconds in on a gorgeous backhand finish.
