The Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation has decided to make a one-time exception for a single dad, awarding him a 50/50 jackpot of $67,692.50 after he missed the deadline to claim the prize.
Clayton Hinkey, from Sedgewick, about 180 kilometres southeast of Edmonton, had taken his four-year-old son to an Oilers game against the Buffalo Sabres on Oct. 16 as a birthday present, but when his young son started to get fussy the pair left the game in the second period.
A volunteer who sold him a 50/50 ticket at the game said he could check his ticket online.
