NASHVILLE -
No matter how many times Sidney Crosby ends up carrying the Stanley Cup, he can never surpass the brilliance of Mario Lemieux.
He can win more games, win more championships, but he can’t skate past the grace, the elegance, the dominance Lemieux brought to the game.
Championships are not the only measure of players. In the case of Lemieux, part owner now of the Pittsburgh Penguins, the most outstanding numbers he ever put up didn’t belong to him.
Warren Young, career afterthought, scored 40 goals playing with the rookie Lemieux in Pittsburgh. He scored 30 goals the rest of his career.
