Sharks' Torres apologizes, says he 'accepts' 41-game suspension

DALLAS - Raffi Torres says he’s sorry.

But that’s not enough for the San Jose Sharks to back his actions.

Nor should they.

On Monday, the NHL slapped the Sharks forward with a 41-game suspension as punishment for his hit on Anaheim Ducks forward Jakob Silfverberg Saturday, one that was ruled both as interference and as a check to the head.

Given that he had been suspended four other times since 2011, it was evident Torres wasn’t getting the league’s message.

He claims he does now. We’ll see.

“I accept the 41-game suspension handed down to me by the NHL’s Department of Player Safety,” Torres said in a statement released by the Sharks on Thursday.
