CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, Pa. — The San Jose Sharks lost Game 1 of the Stanley Cup final. But the loss paled in comparison to what Justin Braun went through on Monday when his father-in-law, former NHLer Tom Lysiak, died of leukemia. He was 63.
“It’s bigger than the game,” said Sharks defenceman Brent Burns. “You just let him know you’re there, but I don’t think you really do too much. I always think of the rink as your sanctuary away from stress and life.”
Braun, who did not speak to reporters on Tuesday, is expected to leave the team temporarily following Game 2 so he can attend the funeral.
