HELSINKI - Moose Jaw Warriors forward Brayden Point was named captain of Canada’s team at the world junior hockey championship on Thursday.
Point learned he’d be captain after an autograph session at the team hotel in Helsinki, Finland, where the tournament is being held.
Point will be assisted by winger Lawson Crouse and defenceman Joe Hicketts. All three are returning from last year’s gold-medal winning team.
“These three players have set a tremendous example for the rest of our team from the start of our camp,” said head coach Dave Lowry. “The leadership, work ethic and attention to detail shown by Brayden, Lawson and Joe are the standard for their teammates.
