RED DEER – The big guns deserved the spotlight.
Red Deer Rebels star winger Jake DeBrusk and Adam Helewka dominated in Sunday’s 5-2 Memorial Cup victory over the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies.
But goaltender Rylan Toth deserves a tip of the hat as well.
Toth shrugged off a nightmare start – the QMJHL champs scored twice in the opening eight minutes – and boarded up the net the rest of the way.
“The first one was a good shot but I thought I could have had it,” Toth said of Timo Meier’s third of the tournament. “The second one (by Julien Nantel) I was really disappointed with letting that in, especially at that time when it was 1-0.
