Rebels pull away from Hitmen in Central Division clash

In the midst of a losing streak of their own, the Red Deer Rebels couldn’t help but notice the Calgary Hitmen in their rear-view mirror.

While the Rebels lost eight games in a row earlier this month, the Hitmen went 4-0-1 from Feb. 11 to 22, to get within striking distance of their Central Division rivals in the standings.

“Everybody’s scoreboard watching now and you see that they got points in five straight,” said Red Deer associate coach Jeff Truitt following a 7-2 win for the Rebels over the Hitmen at the Scotiabank Saddledome on Sunday. “We knew that they were playing well and they were getting some points and we were desperate and had to get some points.
