CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Bryan Rust wasn’t on the ice Tuesday during an optional skate at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex but he was a hot topic of discussion.
There are no guarantees the Pittsburgh Penguins winger, who opened the scoring in the club’s 3-2 victory in Game 1 Monday night over the San Jose Sharks and then left after a hit from Patrick Marleau in the third, will return for Game 2 because he’s day-to-day with the upper-body injury he suffered.
Rust, who has goals in three straight games, may have started the season with the club’s AHL affiliate in Wilkes-Barre, however, he’s become a big part of the offence here so it will be interesting to see if he’s able to suit up for Wednesday because the belief is he hasn’t been completely ruled out.
