Mario Lemieux and Ron Burkle, co-owners of the Pittsburgh Penguins, say a reported dispute between them about the sale of the franchise is false.
The New York Post reported Wednesday evening that Lemieux, happy with a recent bid, was mad that Burkle pushed aside the offer and now the sale of the team is reportedly off the table.
"Mario believes Burkle messed it up," a source close to a potential suitor told the Post.
Lemieux and Burkle were reportedly looking for at least US$700 million for the team and a development site. They announced in June that they were exploring options to sell the team, but have been largely silent until now.
