PITTSBURGH - Pittsburgh Penguins defenceman Kris Letang will have a phone hearing with the NHL’s Department of Player Safety Tuesday because of his head-high hit on Washington’s Marcus Johansson Monday night.
Letang received an interference minor for the hit, just like the Capitals' Brooks Orpik did for his late high shot on the Penguins' Olli Maatta in Game 2 on Saturday. Being forced to serve just two minutes for such reckless plays doesn’t seem to make sense when you consider that a player is slapped with the same punishment for the far less heinous infraction of flipping the puck over the glass.
