The opportunity facing Paul Byron is a dream come true.
The now-former Calgary Flames forward was claimed off waivers by the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday, and it’s a thrill for any player to skate for an Original Six team.
However, it almost meant sayign goodbye to the Flames, with whom Byron grew up to become an NHLer.
“The news came and 26 guys lined up and hugged me, shook my hand and wished me the best,” Byron said as his eyes welled up. “I just shows you the character in this room. It’s sad for me.
