ARLINGTON, Va. — When it was over Wednesday night, when the home team had taken one step closer to a berth in the third round, a giddy fan near the glass at the CONSOL Energy Center proudly held up a banner for all to see.
“‘C’ Stands For Capitals & Chokers,” it blared in large block letters.
A sign of the times, perhaps?
Led by captain Alex Ovechkin, Washington players will dispute that notion, arguing that they will buck history rather than be history when all is said and done. The Capitals have flushed away any margin for error, however, thanks to a 3-2 overtime loss to the Penguins on Wednesday night which leaves the Presidents’ Trophy winners in a 3-1 hole in this best-of-seven second-round series.
