Former Senators heavyweight Andre Roy has always liked to laugh, whether it’s at himself or the teammates he protected with his fists over the years.
There is, however, a serious side beyond the happy-go-lucky personality. It emerges when he talks about occasional short-term memory loss and after seeing Brian McGrattan, another ex-Senators tough guy, smack his face on the ice following a one-punch knockout last week.
McGrattan, playing for San Diego in the American Hockey League, was taken off the ice on a stretcher after being hit by San Antonio’s Daniel Maggio.
“As a former enforcer, for sure it’s ugly to see,” said Roy, who was in Ottawa earlier this week to film an upcoming segment of Hors-Jeu 2.
