At first glance, it makes so much sense — a Memorial Cup in Ottawa, the home of one of the country’s most storied junior hockey franchises, in 2017.
What a birthday party it would be, helping Canada blow out the candles for its 150th birthday — right here in the nation’s capital.
But when the bids went in prior to Wednesday’s deadline, there was nothing from the Ottawa 67’s. Turns out they’re looking at what they think is a better plan — hosting the Memorial Cup in 2018, a year that happens to be the 100th anniversary of the event.
