You know the expression “he’s not heavy, he’s my brother,” well it’s kind of like that with the Edmonton Oilers and Winnipeg Jets.
Only it goes more like “They ARE heavy, and they’re our daddy.”
The Jets, like the St. Louis Blues, L.A. Kings and a few other bruising NHL lineups, have long had their way with an Oilers team that simply didn’t have the size and rarely had the determination to answer back.
“I don’t know if it’s something they don’t like about us or something we don’t like about them, but especially at home (the Jets) come out hard right away, it’s a staple of their game,” said Oilers winger Luke Gazdic, who’s hoping to draw in when the Oilers visit the Jets on Friday.
