As one of the NHL’s few authentic cowboys, there aren’t many things in life Curtis Glencross enjoys more than riding horses on an open range.
However, the 32-year-old winger now admits he erred in saddling up for the trail ride with Calgary Flames president Ken King in 2011 that landed Glencross the four-year, US$10.2-million deal widely seen as a Home on the Range discount of between $2 and $4 million.
“I love my time in Calgary and the organization, but you learn that eventually it’s a business and you’re just a number,” said Glencross from his northwest Calgary home where the unrestricted free agent remains one of the most surprising NHL veterans to be unsigned.
