NHL teams aren't afraid to put big-money players on waivers, as the latest round of moves clearly shows.
On Monday, the final day of waivers before opening-night rosters must be set, the Philadelphia Flyers waived defenceman Andrew MacDonald and the Calgary Flames waived Mason Raymond amid a flurry of transactions.
MacDonald has five years left on his contract at a salary-cap hit of US$5 million.
He'll still count $4.05 million against Philadelphia's cap even if he's sent to the American Hockey League
Raymond, who was a victim of the Flames' logjam at forward, has two years left at a cap hit of $3.
