On this day in 1987, Calgary Flames legend, Al MacInnis, set a single-season franchise record for scoring by a defenceman with his 76th point of the year.
On April 5th, 1987, Al MacInnis registered an assist on the lone Calgary goal in a 3-1 loss against the Winnipeg Jets, breaking Paul Reinhart’s club record from 1983 for most points in a single season by a defenceman. For MacInnis, he would go on to break his own record three more times with the high watermark coming in the 1990-91 campaign when he registered an incredible 103 points (26G, 75A) in 78 games, a franchise record that still stands today.
