The Montreal Canadiens acquired goaltender Ben Scrivens from the Edmonton Oilers on Monday in exchange for forward Zack Kassian.
The Canadiens needed goaltending depth with the absence of Carey Price, who has been out since Nov. 25 after he sustained his second lower-body injury of the season. There is no timeline on when Price will return to the ice. Montreal has used rookie Mike Condon and backup Dustin Tokarski in his absence.
Scrivens, 29, was with the Bakersfield Condors of the American Hockey League, but has 129 games of NHL experience and was the No. 1 goalie for the Oilers in 2014-15, posting a 15-26-11 record with a 3.
