The second time was the charm for Calgary Flames captain Mark Giordano.
After being nominated for the NHL Foundation Player Award last year and failing to capture the honour, Giordano was announced as the 2015-16 recipient of the award. He's the second Flames player to capture the award, following his predecessor as team captain, Jarome Iginla, in 2004.
The NHL Foundation Player Award recognizes an NHL player who applies the core values of hockey – commitment, perseverance and teamwork – to enrich the lives of people in his community.
From the NHL's release:
Giordano’s leadership and dedication on the ice only are paralleled by his various initiatives away from the rink.
