Mark Giordano, Ryan Lomberg facing potential discipline after Wild period

Two Calgary Flames players are facing potential discipline from the National Hockey League’s Department of Player Safety following two separate incidents in the third period of Thursday’s game against the Minnesota Wild.

Calgary’s Mark Giordano will have a hearing today for kneeing Minnesota’s Mikko Koivu.

Mark Giordano was called for tripping in the third period on a player that sent Wild forward Mikko Koivu toppling to the ice. Koivu left the game and didn’t return, and the combination of that and the collision itself – with Giordano leading with his left leg and making knee-on-knee (or at least knee on high shin) contact merited a hearing from the league’s perspective.
