Maple Leafs now stockpiling future draft picks after dry spell

Another day, another second-round pick for the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The team, which acquired a 2017 second-round pick from the Ottawa Senators as part of the Dion Phaneuf trade earlier this month as well as a fourth-round pick from the Colorado Avalanche for Shawn Matthias on Sunday, picked up two more second-round picks (2017 and 2018) from the San Jose Sharks on Monday in exchange for Roman Polak and Nick Spaling.

That gives the Leafs 12 picks for this year’s draft and another eight for next year.

The challenge now is turning those picks into players.
