BUFFALO — Auston Matthews sits beside Wendel Clark in the Maple Leafs record book, but Maple Leafs fans were beside themselves after goaltender Frederik Andersen was injured on Saturday night.
Andersen, an integral cog in the Leafs’ charge to a playoff spot, suffered an upper-body injury during the first period against the Buffalo Sabres at the KeyBank Center and did not return to the game.
Curtis McElhinney entered the Leafs net to start the second period and Toronto went on to lose for only the third time in 10 games, falling 5-2.
The suspicion was that Andersen has suffered a concussion or a shoulder injury, though coach Mike Babcock had no update.
