That old adage that money can’t buy happiness could apply to David Clarkson’s brief time in Toronto.
What should have been a match made in heaven, a Toronto kid coming home to take the moribund Maple Leafs to a higher level, became a hellish year and a half for Clarkson. He started on the wrong foot with a 10-game suspension for coming off the bench to join a pre-season brawl versus Buffalo and was judged a symptom of team troubles when he did get back in full mode and could do little to stem the tide of losing.
