Low loonie could cost NHL $200 million in revenue

Thanks to the sinking loonie, the NHL may be up to $200 million lighter in the pocket this season.

In a Wednesday interview with Bloomberg Television, commissioner Gary Bettman said the league is likely to set a revenue record even though the Canadian dollar fell to 68 cents U.S. in January.

“If the Canadian dollar was still at par, we would be $100 or $200 million higher (in league revenues),” Bettman said. “But I do believe there will be a revenue increase over (last year) and we continue to grow year after year and set new records.
