Longtime NHL linesman Mike Cvik calls it a career

After 29 years of sticking his nose into other people’s business, it’s a miracle Mike Cvik’s beak has only been broken once.

One of the NHL’s most respected linesmen will get one last chance to dance with the big boys tonight before putting the wraps on a career in which he’s been paid to, um, put the wraps on the game’s fiercest warriors.

And to think, he spent the first ten years breaking up fights without a helmet on.

“The biggest thing I tell the young guys is that when I first came into the Battle of Alberta, if we didn’t have six fights in the first period it was a calm game,” chuckled the 6-foot-9 Calgary native.
