Long-time Senator Chris Phillips announces retirement [Video]

OTTAWA — After thanking former teammates, coaches and family in his retirement speech Thursday, Chris Phillips said he had not given much thought about his legacy in the NHL.

“Just being remembered is a feat in itself,” Phillips said.

“When they talk about how you played the game, it was not a flashy game. I felt like I would do whatever the team needed me to do, what would give the team the best chance to win. I never got caught up in roles or ice time.”

Indeed, Phillips, who scored 71 goals and 271 assists during his 1,179-game career — the most in Senators history — is pretty much the anti-Erik Karlsson.
