Lightning's Ryan Callahan out after emergency surgery

The Tampa Bay Lightning received a blow Monday night when forward Ryan Callahan had to have an emergency appendectomy, according to multiple media reports.

The Lightning, up three games to two against the Montreal Canadiens in their Eastern Conference semifinal series, will be without Callahan for Game 6 at home on Tuesday.

Callahan reported pain and discomfort Monday afternoon, according to the Tampa Tribune. He was sent to Tampa General Hospital where he was diagnosed with acute appendicitis and emergency surgery was performed in the evening.

There is no timetable for his return to the lineup.
