MONTREAL - James Reimer was about to take his gameday nap at the Maple Leafs’ downtown hotel Saturday afternoon when he noticed a call coming in to his cell phone.
“When I saw it was a New Jersey area code, I knew something was up,” he said.
In the end, what was “up” — at least for the time being, anyway — is Reimer’s run as a Maple Leaf.
On the other end of the line was Leafs GM Lou Lamoriello, who still has a residence in New Jersey.
The message: Reimer and forward Jeremy Morin have been traded to the San Jose Sharks for goaltender Alex Stalock, forward Ben Smith and a conditional 4th-round selection in the 2018 draft.
